Previewing 'A Capsule in Time'
A short film from Serpentine previews this year's Serpentine Pavilion, A Capsule in Time, designed by Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum. The pavilion opens to the public in London's Kensington Gardens on June 6 and will be on display until October 26, 2025.
The announcement that Marina Tabassum would be designing the 24th Serpentine Gallery Pavilion was made in January, accompanied by renderings showing vaulted wood structures covered in a translucent material. The form and materials were inspired by Shamiyana, the temporary bamboo structures covered with fabric for weddings and other events. Tabassum explains this inspiration in the short film, as well as giving background on her path to architecture and showing some of the buildings executed by her eponymous, Dhaka-based firm.
