Van Gogh. Between the Grain and the Sky

Set in the unique historical-architectural context of the Hall of the Basilica Palladiana, the exhibition design sought formal and functional coherence. The longitudinal subdivision of the rectangular floor plan was realised by means of a structural element that organises the exhibition route in a rational manner, while integrating the necessary devices for room climate control. The walls perpendicular to the central spine define large exhibition volumes, maintaining a constant visual relationship with the existing architecture while guaranteeing an intimate fruition of the works.

The structural design is entirely self-supporting, with a careful distribution of loads and supports in order to preserve the integrity of the ceiling. The colour palette of the installation is deliberately monochromatic, with the use of RAL 7044 grey for all the exhibition surfaces and the primary trusses, contrasting with the darker shade of the wainscoting on the central walls. The room dedicated to the projection of the docufilm is characterised by the colour matt black.

Lighting plays a primary role in the spatial and perceptive definition of the exhibition. The deliberately dark atmosphere leads the visitor into an almost theatrical ambience, where shadows form a backdrop to the vibrant emergence of the paintings. Perfectly centred cones of light sculpt the works, revealing their surprising expressive power and unexpected visual strength.

The result is the fruit of extensive research into the lighting bodies. The Vincent spotlight was designed specifically for this exhibition and subsequently marketed with technical features optimised for the museum environment. The LED technology, integrated in a die-cast aluminium body, guarantees the preservation of the works thanks to the absence of IR and UV emissions and low heat emission. The possibility of varying the colour temperature of white offers curatorial flexibility. The spotlights also allow precise framing of the artwork, creating a luminous contrast with the context and enhancing its chromaticity, with control via DALI system.
